The Independent Power Transmission Operator S.A. (IPTO) was established with Law 4001/2011 and was organized and operates as an Independent Transmission Operator in line with the provisions of EU Directive 2009/72/EC. The Company has the responsibilities and performs the duties of Owner and Operator of the Hellenic Electricity Transmission System (HETS), in accordance with the provisions of Law 4001/2011 the requirements in the Grid Code and the HETS operation license.
IPTO’s compliance with the requirements applicable to the Independent Transmission Operator model was certified by the Regulatory Authority for Energy in December 2012.
The mission of IPTO is the operation, control, maintenance and development of the Hellenic Electricity Transmission System, to ensure the country’s supply with electricity in an adequate, safe, efficient and reliable manner, as well as the operation of the electricity market for transactions outside the Day Ahead Scheduling, pursuant to the principles of transparency, equality and free competition.
As Administrator of the Hellenic Electricity Transmission System (ESMIE), ADMIE has the task of ensuring the supply of electricity to the country in a safe, efficient and reliable way, promoting the development of free competition in the Greek electricity market and ensuring equal treatment of the users of the ESMIE.

Establishment of the Regional Security Coordinator in Thessaloniki, (SEleNe CC).
SEleNe CC was established by the Transmission System Operators of Greece (IPTO), Italy (TERNA SpA), Romania (Transelectrica) and Bulgaria (ESO-EAD).
The mission of this new body is to ensure the efficient cooperation and coordination between the Electricity Systems and the Electricity Markets in Greece, Bulgaria and Romania, aiming to play a critical role in the new era of the integrated European electricity market.
Establishment of subsidiary Grid Telecom, the Independent Power Transmission Operator's vehicle for providing telecommunications services to national and international providers.
Establishment of special purpose vehicle Ariadne Interconnection, to undertake IPTO’s largest project, the interconnection of Crete with Attica.
Participation of the Independent Power Transmission Operator (IPTO) in the share capital of the Energy Exchange with 20%.
